We haven’t had anything with an Opel badge since ... the late 70s? Fuck - this is US America - you want Opel, Citroen, Renault, Fiats other than the 500? FUCK you. We need new oil in our veins.

perks of growing up in Europe: I’ve driven enough shitboxes from over there to know what’s good.
Trust me, you're only missing out on the sporty stuff and the citroen C6

We got close.
So. Very. Close......

I know. I had one and loved it. :p

So close ... so many Holden and Opel cars should have been badged as a Pontiac and sold here. I’d like to think we’d have bought them all.

We can dream.

And I want one. Preferably with panoramic roof.

Very inoffensive generic Euro styling. It looks like it could be a VW, maybe cheap Audi, Nissan, or Honda from the same time period. I still like it though, because Euro.

Mine didn’t have that roof. It was a 5 door with this giant sunroof:

it’s mediocrity at it’s finest. but it’s surprisingly fun to drive because cable throttle+light weight+hydraulic power steering+no aids=fun

One of my favorite cars I owned was an 02 Astra 1.8 SRi of this shape, was just a nice well rounded, reliable car. Much preferred it to the one I had a couple of cars later (the one you guys got as the Saturn Astra), that felt like a step backwards in how it drove and quality.

gutless. hence why Australia only had 1.8l versions or 2.0l turbo & 2.2l

I think the Astra improved quite a bit in both looks and handling after the one you posted.
Certainly the new (latest) Astra looks great and has some great reviews.
Though at some point I would love an Astra VXR.

my mom loved hers. we still have it as a summer car in Serbia.
Hell, even my uncle liked it so much that he got the exact same model in black

yep totally gutless. but hey, 103hp was fun to beat on at low speeds

I’ve sat in the newest astra ( a coupe GTC one with a 1.6 Turbo) and I really liked it.
Still, there's acertain honesty to the one my mom has

Mine was a late 02 silver 5 door SRi so had the darkened headlight, rear lights and updated alloys so it looked pretty smart, it really was a nice car, never caused me any issues, was good on the motorway, was well screwed together, could be fun to hustle along etc. Sold it for a Celica T-Sport, hated it (should have got the normal one with the premium pack, the T-Sport was too highly strung for me as a DD!)and regretted doing it almost straight away, should have just bought another Astra G but didn’t want to go back to an old model so got an 04 Astra H (1.8 Elite), that was a huge mistake as it was a piece of crap, the way it drove, they way it felt inside (felt way cheaper) and was always going wrong. Chopped that in for an 07 Mazda 3 2.0td Sport after 7 months and had the 3 for nearly 5 years!

nice! we still have our Astra in Serbia as a summer car. my uncle takes care of it for us.ours is an '08, so it's a 'Classic II', basically a base model they sold for cheap in the Balkans. Ours has 24,000km's on it, so it's basically a new car!
